for an beginners guide to the GDS |
HOW IMPORTANT ARE THE GDS FOR MY HOTEL?
The GDS are important for all hotels with a rating of 2 to 3
stars and upwards, although certain types of hotel will receive more bookings
from the GDS than others:
- Hotels
which have a high proportion of international travellers
- Hotels
which have a higher proportion of business travellers than leisure
travellers
- City
Centre and Airport hotels
However,
other types of hotels can increasingly benefit from the GDS due to their use as
"booking engines" for travel websites used by the general public to book
business trips and holidays. |
HOW CAN I GET MY HOTEL LISTED IN THE GDS?
Franchisees get there through Best Western, Comfort Inn, etc.
Smart hotels will take the provider offering a combination of the lowest
booking fee and the greatest possible online control by the hotel |
HOW CAN I GET MORE BOOKINGS FROM THE GDS?
Is your hotel set up to compete with the large hotel chains?
Obtaining a listing in the GDS is only half the battle. You also need to offer
a similar rate structure to that used by those chain hotels. That means having
a standard rate ("Rack") that is set at a point well above the level that you
would normally expect to achieve. Then you need to introduce a
range of other rate types which are lower than the standard rate and which
therefore appear to be discounted - even though they may be just the "going"
rate in your market. Click
here for a
more detailed explanation. |
WHAT CAN GO WRONG?
Geocoding errors, missed bookings due to rates not loaded far
enough in advance, closing out prematurely, failure to pay travel agency
commissions |
